About the Wild & Rooted Trail Run

The course runs through the wilder, unmanicured side of a large conservation property, moving across meadows, through forest, and past a restored pond. Underfoot you get grass, gravel, mulch, and dirt, and the hills roll throughout. The land is actively managed for native habitat, and that shows: pollinators in the meadows, native trees overhead, birdlife along the way.

Bib pickup runs in the hour or so before the mass start. Afterward, there are hay wagon rides through the property, guided walking tours, a conservation expo with local partners, and food plus beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. A live DJ keeps things going. Race registration also gets you into the gardens for the rest of the day.

Common Questions About the Wild & Rooted Trail Run

Will I finish last at the Wild & Rooted Trail Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:17, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:16:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Wild & Rooted Trail Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (159 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Wild & Rooted Trail Run?

The 5K winner ran 18:37 while the median finisher took 37:17. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
