About the Wettlauf 5K

The course runs on rolling city streets through downtown Jasper, with gentle ups and downs throughout. The route is well-marked and has police support, so traffic is not a concern. It is a road race in the truest sense, more pavement than scenery, but the surroundings are familiar and navigable.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a running store on Main Street, and race-morning pickup opens well before the gun by the start line, also on Main Street. Fruit and water are at the finish. The race is part of a multi-day German heritage street festival happening around it, so the post-race scene has food booths, rides, and a lot going on.

Common Questions About the Wettlauf 5K

Will I finish last at the Wettlauf 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:44:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Wettlauf 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 368 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Wettlauf 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:19 while the median finisher took 28:39. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
