About the West Virginia Trilogy

This is a multi-day stage race built around Spruce Knob, the highest peak in the state. Each day covers a different distance, stepping up through the middle day before finishing with a half marathon to close things out. The terrain is trail throughout, which means roots, elevation, and the kind of remote mountain running you do not find at a road event.

Common Questions About the West Virginia Trilogy

Will I finish last at the West Virginia Trilogy?

Almost certainly not. Half the 50K field finished slower than 7:46:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 10:17:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the West Virginia Trilogy a good first 50K?

It is a small race (64 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 50K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the West Virginia Trilogy?

The 50K winner ran 5:19:49 while the median finisher took 7:46:07. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
