About the Weld Your Mettle Running Festival

The course is a groomed dirt loop on a private property outside of town, run repeatedly depending on which distance you entered. The terrain is smooth enough underfoot that you can find a rhythm, but Longs Peak sits on the horizon the whole time, which does something to the way the miles feel. This is a trail race that doubles as a camping weekend.

The event runs across several days, and most people stay on the property. There are glamping tents available if you do not want to bring your own gear, plus a sauna, cold plunges, bonfires, and a film screening. Food and drinks are part of the weekend. It is set up more like a festival than a single race morning.

Common Questions About the Weld Your Mettle Running Festival

Will I finish last at the Weld Your Mettle Running Festival?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4.3 Miles field finished slower than 48:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:21:16, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Weld Your Mettle Running Festival a good first 4.3 Miles?

It is a small race (64 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4.3 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Weld Your Mettle Running Festival?

The 4.3 Miles winner ran 28:53 while the median finisher took 48:39. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
