About the WCPS Zombie Run (5K Run/1 Mile Walk)

This is an employee wellness event open to school system staff and their families and friends, with a zombie theme adding some personality to an otherwise straightforward run and walk. The course is in a park in Salisbury, and the atmosphere leans more toward a family afternoon out than a race.

Alongside the run and walk, there are chair massages, reflexology, lawn games, music, and snacks. Age group awards go to the top finishers in the run, and door prize drawings happen in the hour after the finish. The event goes on regardless of weather, unless the route itself becomes unsafe.

Common Questions About the WCPS Zombie Run (5K Run/1 Mile Walk)

Will I finish last at the WCPS Zombie Run (5K Run/1 Mile Walk)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 43:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:19, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the WCPS Zombie Run (5K Run/1 Mile Walk) a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (80 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the WCPS Zombie Run (5K Run/1 Mile Walk)?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:04 while the median finisher took 43:46. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
