About the Walk for Life + 5K

The race starts and finishes at the Opelika Sportsplex, a facility with its own parking on site. The course is a road event organized by a local women's medical clinic, so the crowd has a purpose-driven feel alongside the usual running field. Awards go to top finishers in both the male and female categories, and results are posted online after the event.

Packet pickup runs race morning at the Sportsplex before an opening ceremony with a welcome and worship segment. Water and Gatorade are available at intervals along the course. Parking is on site, so you can pull in, pick up your bib, and be ready without much scrambling.

Common Questions About the Walk for Life + 5K

Will I finish last at the Walk for Life + 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Walk for Life + 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (132 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Walk for Life + 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:48 while the median finisher took 33:59. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
