About the Voices Against Violence 5K Run/Walk

This is a fundraiser race for an organization that supports survivors of sexual and domestic violence in the area. The morning opens with brief remarks from local advocates before the course gets underway. Chip timing is used, so results come back quickly. The race draws people who are there to run and people who are there to raise money, often both.

Packet pickup and day-of registration both happen at the start area before the gun goes off. Parking is free behind the main building on Bishop Street, with signs posted to guide you in.

Common Questions About the Voices Against Violence 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Voices Against Violence 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:30, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Voices Against Violence 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (125 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Voices Against Violence 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 15:51 while the median finisher took 36:58. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
