About the Virginia Creeper Marathon
The Virginia Creeper Marathon runs entirely on a former railroad bed, so the surface is soft and the grade stays gentle throughout. The route follows an out-and-back pattern with several turnarounds, which means you pass the same trailheads more than once. That is useful for spectators: family and friends can park at those access points and catch a runner multiple times over the course of the morning.
Aid stations are spaced regularly along the trail, each stocked with water, sports drink, and homemade food. The race starts and finishes near the Abingdon Trailhead, where Green Springs Road meets the trail. Amenities are minimal by design, and the organizers are upfront about that, but the course is USATF certified and qualifies for Boston.

How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
