About the 12th Annual Viking Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

The course runs through the school campus and along its perimeter roads, so you spend most of the race on familiar ground for the students and alumni who make up a good chunk of the field. The surroundings are residential and quiet, and the route is marked with signs at intervals to keep you on track. Costumes are part of the deal, turkey-themed or Viking gear both welcome.

Packet pickup is the evening before at the school gym on Kay Circle, and the same lot serves as race-day parking. Day-of pickup and registration open early in the morning. After you finish, there is jambalaya, fruit, and drinks waiting in the post-race area.

Common Questions About the 12th Annual Viking Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

Will I finish last at the 12th Annual Viking Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 28:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 55:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 12th Annual Viking Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (82 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 12th Annual Viking Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:41 while the median finisher took 28:55. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
