About the Viking Family & Friends Mile
This is a track meet-style evening event tied to a high school cross country senior night in Forest Grove. The community mile runs under the lights after the school races wrap up, with the athletes themselves cheering on the crowd. A casual walk and jog option follows, so the pace of the evening spans a wide range.
There is a raffle at the race, and cash and check donations are accepted on site. The entry fee is collected at registration. The whole event is meant to be a fundraiser for the cross country program, and the atmosphere is shaped more by a school community gathering than a traditional road race.
