About the Veterans Day Fun Run

The course runs through Riverview Park, a natural wetland area near the heart of Carson City. Both distance options use flat park trails, so there is not much to navigate technically. Before the first wave goes off, there is a flag ceremony and national anthem, which sets the tone for the morning. The race benefits local causes, including a fund for graduating seniors.

Parking is in the lot next to the park; if that fills up, street parking in the surrounding neighborhood works, though the organizer asks you to watch for driveways. There are no water stops on the course itself, but water and snacks are at the finish line. Bibs are available to collect on race morning before things get underway.

Common Questions About the Veterans Day Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Veterans Day Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Veterans Day Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (96 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Veterans Day Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 18:59 while the median finisher took 32:09. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
