About the Veteran's Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay

The course runs along the Ghost Town Trail, a rail trail that follows a gentle grade through rural western Pennsylvania. The surface underfoot is crushed limestone, which makes for a smooth ride even in late-season conditions. The surrounding landscape is wooded and quiet, and the route has the open, unhurried feel of a trail that was built for long walks before it was ever used for racing.

Proceeds from the race go to a fund supporting veterans in the region, so the entry fee carries some weight beyond the morning itself. The Indiana Road Runners Club puts this one on, and that kind of local club ownership tends to show in the details on race day.

Common Questions About the Veteran's Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay

Will I finish last at the Veteran's Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:06:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:55:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Veteran's Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 205 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Veteran's Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:18:42 while the median finisher took 2:06:56. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
