About the Verona Labor Day Classic

The longer race starts in front of a school on Lakeside Avenue and works through the streets of town before finishing near the boathouse in Verona Park. The shorter option loops the park path and shares that same finish. Both courses are certified road routes, and the whole event is put on by volunteers with proceeds going to local charities and scholarships.

Packet pickup runs the weekend before at a running store in Montclair, with race-morning pickup opening near the boathouse. Parking inside the park is closed on race day, but street parking and a municipal lot across Bloomfield Avenue are available nearby.

Common Questions About the Verona Labor Day Classic

Will I finish last at the Verona Labor Day Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:51, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Verona Labor Day Classic a good first 5K?

A field of 499 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Verona Labor Day Classic?

The 5K winner ran 15:47 while the median finisher took 28:51. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
