About the VanderDash

The VanderDash is a school fundraiser road race that starts from an elementary school campus in Dunwoody, on the left side of the building near the arch. Strollers are welcome, though they are asked to line up toward the back. Awards go out later in the morning, so there is reason to stick around after you finish.

Bibs are picked up inside the school before the start. Parking is not at the school itself; runners are directed to nearby schools and a walking path connects them to the start. Race-day registration is available at a table on site, cash or check only.

Common Questions About the VanderDash

Will I finish last at the VanderDash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the VanderDash a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (150 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the VanderDash?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:00 while the median finisher took 33:25. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
