The course runs along Monument Avenue, one of Richmond's most recognizable streets, lined with historic statues and wide medians. It draws a broad crowd, from costumed groups to people out for a brisk walk, and the boulevard gives everyone plenty of room. The atmosphere on race morning feels more like a neighborhood block party than a timed event.
