About the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Greater Augusta, GA
This race is part of a national series honoring Stephen Siller, an FDNY firefighter who ran through a tunnel toward the Twin Towers on the morning of the attacks. The course is a 5K, untimed, and the point is the experience rather than a finish time. Some participants run it in firefighter gear or military packs, which shapes the feel of the morning considerably.
Packet pickup is available the evening before at a local running store, with same-day pickup also offered. Registration stays open through race morning, though those who wait pay a bit more. A water station is set up along the route and again at the finish.
