About the 12th Annual Tinsel Trot 5k Fun Run

The course starts at a stop sign between a tavern and a trading post, turns onto Lake Louise Marie Road, then swings onto North Emerald, where runners go out to a turnaround and come back the same way. You finish near where you began, and the out-and-back layout means you see other runners on their way in while you are still heading out.

The race is organized by a local teachers' association and raises money for student scholarships and area charities. Costumes are part of the culture here; holiday character outfits are common enough that showing up in one feels normal rather than conspicuous.
