About the Through the Smoke Road Race
The course starts at the Mandan Firefighters Training Grounds and winds through the Lakewood neighborhood. The route is a road race on city streets, so expect pavement throughout. The start area has a kids' fire safety activity zone, and families tend to gather near the finish to watch runners come in. The race benefits the local firefighters union, funding equipment and training.
Packet pickup runs the evening before at a downtown Mandan event space, with race-morning pickup available as well. The start area is at the training grounds on the southeast side of the city. Post-race awards cover age group winners across both competitive distances, with a ceremony wrapping up before midday.
