About the Santa Shuffle 5k

The Santa Shuffle puts everyone on the course in a Santa suit, so the field looks the same from the front and the back. The race starts at the carousel on City Island, which gives the morning a distinct setting out on the river. The route is a 5K, and the holiday costume element is the real character of the event rather than anything about the terrain.

Packet pickup is available at Fleet Feet locations in Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg in the days before the race. There is also a race-morning pickup window, though the organizers lean toward getting your packet beforehand. Spots sell out before race day, so early registration is worth keeping in mind.

Common Questions About the The Santa Shuffle 5k

Will I finish last at the Santa Shuffle 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Santa Shuffle 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 639 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Santa Shuffle 5k?

The 5K winner ran 17:18 while the median finisher took 33:44. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
