About the Robert Van Tassel “Live the Dash” Memorial 5k
The course starts and finishes at the Chelsea Fire Company station and takes runners along the Hudson River. It is a road race on neighborhood streets, flat enough that people of most paces show up together. The race benefits the fire company and funds a scholarship given to local high school seniors who show commitment to running and to good character.
The fire station serves as the gathering point before and after the race, so the post-race scene is right there where you started. The scholarship connection gives the morning a weight that most local road races do not carry. This one is named for the man who ran it every year and handed out awards at the end.

The Robert Van Tassel “Live the Dash” Memorial 5k has been held every year since at least 2020. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
