About the Moon Run 5k

The Moon Run takes place after dark at Victor Ashe Park, and that is the whole point. Headlamps, glow sticks, and light-up gear are part of the deal. The longer course heads out along a greenway beside the disc golf course, crosses over to a school greenway, loops around, and returns the same way. The shorter option circles the soccer fields and comes back.

Packet pickup and race start both happen at the park pavilion the same evening, so there is no separate day to come back for. The race goes on even in rain, so dress for the cold and plan for it. There are snacks and water at the finish, and a water stop at the turnaround on the longer course.

Common Questions About the The Moon Run 5k

Will I finish last at the Moon Run 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:03, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Moon Run 5k a good first 5K?

It is a small race (75 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Moon Run 5k?

The 5K winner ran 16:47 while the median finisher took 34:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
