About the Last Mile

The course heads out from the fire hall at Cumberland and High Street, climbs into the hillside outside town, then comes back down to finish where it started. There is real elevation here, not just a suggestion of it. Proceeds go to the local fire company and to student runners at Perry County schools.

Common Questions About the The Last Mile

Will I finish last at the Last Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 43:14, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Last Mile a good first 5 Miles?

It is a small race (73 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Last Mile?

The 5 Miles winner ran 32:28 while the median finisher took 43:14. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
