About the Fourth of July Stampede

The course runs through Wooster Memorial Park, and the two distances feel quite different from each other. The shorter option stays mostly in the woods and around an open field. The longer one gets into proper trail running territory, with singletrack, creek crossings, and real climbing. If you have not run technical trails before, the longer route will let you know it.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a local running store in downtown Wooster. Race morning pickup and the start are both at the park's Education Area parking lot. Gift cards go to the top finishers in the longer distance.

Common Questions About the The Fourth of July Stampede

Will I finish last at the Fourth of July Stampede?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:23:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Fourth of July Stampede a good first 5K?

It is a small race (98 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Fourth of July Stampede?

The 5K winner ran 19:58 while the median finisher took 37:09. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
