About the Chase

The course runs on a closed highway, out and back with a single turn, so the road is wide and the surface is smooth the whole way. There are no traffic lights, no sharp corners, and no trail debris. The prize money draws fast runners, but the field also pulls in people who just want a clear stretch of pavement and a crowd to race through.

The post-race gathering is hosted by a local brewery, with soft pretzels and a drink. It wraps up what is effectively an evening race, so the atmosphere after the finish has more of a block-party feel than a typical morning cool-down.

Common Questions About the The Chase

Will I finish last at the Chase?

Almost certainly not. Half the race field finished slower than 28:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 52:14, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Chase a good first race?

A field of 333 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first race, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Chase?

The race winner ran 14:51 while the median finisher took 28:47. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
