About the Bull Run for ALS of Michigan

The course runs out and back on a paved path from a beach and water park, with some real hills along the way. The start and finish area is on a ball diamond, and the race itself carries a lot of meaning: it honors the founder's father, who died from ALS, and crossing home plate at the finish is deliberate.

Packet pickup happens the week of the race at a local restaurant and a running store, both in Brighton. On race morning, pickup is available at the park before the start. A kids' fun run for children under eleven goes off before the main race, free to enter.

Common Questions About the The Bull Run for ALS of Michigan

Will I finish last at the Bull Run for ALS of Michigan?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:04, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:09, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bull Run for ALS of Michigan a good first 5K?

It is a small race (107 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bull Run for ALS of Michigan?

The 5K winner ran 16:45 while the median finisher took 35:04. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
