About the Thanksgiving Downhill Mile

This is a point-to-point downhill mile through neighborhood streets in Laramie, starting on Northview Street and finishing near an elementary school on Knadler Street. The course drops steadily the whole way, which makes it genuinely fast, and the route is short enough that you can push hard from the gun. Categories run from young kids through older adults.

Check-in and race-morning registration both happen inside the elementary school cafeteria before the start. The race benefits local youth running programs, including middle school and high school cross country teams and a youth running club.

Common Questions About the Thanksgiving Downhill Mile

Will I finish last at the Thanksgiving Downhill Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1 Miles field finished slower than 8:03, and the last recorded finisher came in around 16:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Thanksgiving Downhill Mile a good first 1 Miles?

It is a small race (95 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Thanksgiving Downhill Mile?

The 1 Miles winner ran 4:32 while the median finisher took 8:03. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
