About the Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

The course runs down Fort Mountain on paved roads through the Cohutta Wilderness Area, dropping steeply for most of the route before leveling out into a flat to rolling finish at City Park in Chatsworth. Half marathon runners also do a short stretch on top of the mountain first, so there are real climbs before the long descent begins. All distances are certified, which draws runners chasing personal records.

Runners park at the finish and ride a shuttle up the mountain to their start. The shuttle runs from City Park beginning early on race morning, and the ride to the top takes roughly half an hour. Packet pickup is the day before at the City Park Pavilion, with a race-morning window as well. Post-race there is hot food, cold drinks, and beer at City Park, along with live music.

Common Questions About the Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Will I finish last at the Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:00:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:31:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 237 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Tear Drop Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:15:15 while the median finisher took 2:00:29. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
