About the Taste of Portage Half Marathon and 5K

The course runs through downtown and out along the Wisconsin River on a paved levee path, passing several parks along the way. It is a road race with real variety in what you see, not just a loop around the same blocks. Strollers are welcome on course, and dogs can come to the event on a leash.

The race starts and finishes at the county administration building downtown, where parking is available along with portable restrooms. Packet pickup happens the evening before at the market fair, with bands playing and food vendors around. After the race, the block party continues with a car show, kid's entertainment, and plenty to eat and drink.

Common Questions About the Taste of Portage Half Marathon and 5K

Will I finish last at the Taste of Portage Half Marathon and 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Taste of Portage Half Marathon and 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (58 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Taste of Portage Half Marathon and 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:05 while the median finisher took 33:31. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
