The course goes around Lake Waccamaw, so the water stays close for most of the route. The terrain is flat, and the surroundings are quiet enough that you notice the lake more than the effort. It reads like a morning run that happens to have a start line.
Packet pickup is the evening before at Lake Waccamaw Methodist Church, where a spaghetti dinner runs alongside it. Proceeds from the dinner go toward the church's community programs, so it doubles as a useful and worthwhile stop before race morning.
