About the T-Town Turkey Trot

The T-Town Turkey Trot runs on Thanksgiving morning through Tazewell, welcoming runners, walkers, dogs on leash, and strollers. The race benefits a local food pantry, and runners are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation. There is even an award for whoever shows up with the most food.

Awards go out after the run for overall and age group winners, best costume, fastest dog, and fastest stroller. A drawing gives away gift cards to a local restaurant. The whole morning leans toward participation over competition, with the food drive giving it a particular sense of occasion.

Common Questions About the T-Town Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the T-Town Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:02, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:08, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the T-Town Turkey Trot a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (135 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the T-Town Turkey Trot?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:46 while the median finisher took 36:02. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
