About the Swing the Gates 5k and 10k
This Halloween race takes over Deception Pass State Park for what amounts to two very different mornings. The classic run follows mostly paved surfaces but opens with a steep climb, while the scavenger hunt sends teams off on unpaved trails to solve clues that reveal the route as they go. Costumes are encouraged, and dogs are welcome on the fun run course.
The park requires a Discover Pass to use the lot, which you can buy ahead of time or pick up at the entrance booth on race day. The aid station is cup-free, so bring your own water bottle. For the scavenger hunt, plan to carry water and snacks, as that course is entirely self-supported.
