About the Sweetgrass Half Marathon & 10K

The course winds through a pair of residential neighborhoods tied to a long tradition of sweetgrass basket weaving in this part of the coast. The terrain is flat throughout, which makes for a quick, uninterrupted run. The surroundings feel more neighborhood than park, with streets rather than trails underfoot.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at a local running shop inside the Carolina Park development, with a backup option on race morning at the Lakeside Pavilion at Park West Recreation Complex, where the race also starts.

Common Questions About the Sweetgrass Half Marathon & 10K

Will I finish last at the Sweetgrass Half Marathon & 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 1:58:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:11:46, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Sweetgrass Half Marathon & 10K a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (179 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Sweetgrass Half Marathon & 10K?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:19:39 while the median finisher took 1:58:09. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
