About the Surfside Beach Marathon
The entire course runs on the beach, sand underfoot the whole way. Longer distances do an out-and-back that passes through the finish area before the race is done, and there are a couple of loops for the full marathon. The route is essentially impossible to get lost on; the Gulf is always on one side or the other. Expect shells, tide ripples, and occasional vehicle traffic sharing the sand.
Packet pickup happens the evening before the race at Stahlman Park Pavilion, with an additional early-morning window on race day at the same spot. That pavilion is also the start and finish. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas and can run alongside their owners on the course.
