About the SURF Board Popsicle 5K 2027
The Popsicle 5K is put on by a youth philanthropy board of local high school students, and that backstory gives the morning a different feeling than most road races. A costume contest for the most creative wintry outfit runs alongside the race, and anyone bold enough can take on the Brain Freeze Challenge, which involves stopping to eat a popsicle at each stage of the course.
Packet pickup and on-site registration open well before the start, so there is no reason to rush. Families with young children who are not running have a supervised activity area staffed by students. There is food after the finish, along with raffle drawings and prize giveaways, so most people hang around for a while.
