About the Sundae Miler

The course runs point to point along the boardwalk, starting near the King Neptune statue and finishing at the street that marks the end of the stretch. The whole thing is flat and oceanside, so you get salt air and the Atlantic the entire way. It is short and fast, and the boardwalk surface is even underfoot.

Packet pickup is near the start line on race morning, with a window that closes before the gun. After the race, the celebration moves to Lollys, a nearby spot, where ice cream is part of the post-race spread.

Common Questions About the Sundae Miler

Will I finish last at the Sundae Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1 Miles field finished slower than 10:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 24:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Sundae Miler a good first 1 Miles?

A field of 319 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Sundae Miler?

The 1 Miles winner ran 4:52 while the median finisher took 10:34. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
