About the 10th Annual Summer Smith 5K Addiction Awareness Memorial Run

This race starts at a high school and carries real weight. It was founded to honor a woman who spent years fighting addiction and lost that fight, and the proceeds go toward scholarship funds and local addiction recovery programs. A memory ceremony happens before the start, which sets a different tone than most morning races. Dogs and strollers are both welcome on the course.

The morning opens with the ceremony before the running begins, so arriving early matters here more than it might at other races.

Common Questions About the 10th Annual Summer Smith 5K Addiction Awareness Memorial Run

Will I finish last at the 10th Annual Summer Smith 5K Addiction Awareness Memorial Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 49:51, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:35:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 10th Annual Summer Smith 5K Addiction Awareness Memorial Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (196 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 10th Annual Summer Smith 5K Addiction Awareness Memorial Run?

The 5K winner ran 17:00 while the median finisher took 49:51. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
