About the Strider Mile

The race runs on a track at Greenbrier Christian Academy, a surface that gives every heat a fast, measurable loop with nothing underfoot to slow you down. Heats are seeded by predicted time, so you tend to run surrounded by people moving at roughly your pace. There is also a short kids' run and a relay event for teams.

Packet pickup opens early on race morning at the start and finish area, with a check-in deadline before the later heats begin. Post-race, Panera food and beverages are set out for runners and volunteers.

Common Questions About the Strider Mile

Will I finish last at the Strider Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1 Miles field finished slower than 7:03, and the last recorded finisher came in around 14:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Strider Mile a good first 1 Miles?

It is a small race (144 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Strider Mile?

The 1 Miles winner ran 4:44 while the median finisher took 7:03. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
