About the STMA Turkey Day 5k

The race starts on Thanksgiving morning at Central Park in Albertville, hosted by the local high school cross country teams as a fundraiser for their programs. The course runs through the park. It draws a crowd that mixes competitive runners with people just getting a run in before the holiday meal.

Packet pickup is offered the evening before at the race site, which is the easier option if you want to skip the morning rush. Race-morning check-in opens well before the start for those who need it. Parking is in the Central Park lot, with overflow on nearby side streets. Snacks and drinks are out after the finish.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a decent-sized field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the STMA Turkey Day 5k

Will I finish last at the STMA Turkey Day 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:01, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:03, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the STMA Turkey Day 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 528 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the STMA Turkey Day 5k?

The 5K winner ran 15:13 while the median finisher took 33:01. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
