About the 2nd Annual Step Up for Recovery 5K

This race is organized around addiction recovery awareness, so the crowd and the cause are intertwined. The course is flat and moves quickly underfoot, which tends to attract people chasing a fast time alongside those out for a first-ever finish. Chip timing is handled by a local timing company, and age group awards go fairly deep.

After the race, refreshments are out and local recovery organizations have a presence, so there is reason to stay a while. It is the kind of finish area where people actually linger.

Common Questions About the 2nd Annual Step Up for Recovery 5K

Will I finish last at the 2nd Annual Step Up for Recovery 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:56, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 2nd Annual Step Up for Recovery 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (44 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 2nd Annual Step Up for Recovery 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 22:01 while the median finisher took 39:46. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
