About the Stayton Fun Run

The course mixes pavement and cross-country surfaces, so expect to move between asphalt stretches and softer ground. It runs on a holiday as part of a larger town festival, so the streets around the start have real energy before the gun goes off. A Scout flag ceremony opens the morning, which sets the tone for the whole event.

The race starts and finishes at the community center, which becomes the hub for the rest of the day. The surrounding festival runs well past the finish, with a parade, live music, food booths, and fireworks later in the evening, so there is reason to stay in town after you are done running.

Common Questions About the Stayton Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Stayton Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the race field finished slower than 29:19, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Stayton Fun Run a good first race?

It is a small race (141 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first race, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Stayton Fun Run?

The race winner ran 16:32 while the median finisher took 29:19. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
