About the Staunton Rocks! Marathon and Half Marathon

The course runs almost entirely on singletrack through Staunton State Park, weaving past old historic structures and remnants of past milling operations. The trails are mostly flowing with gradual climbs, though technical sections surface often enough to keep your feet honest. Views stretch far across the Front Range from several overlooks, and the park's rock formations draw raptors you can spot overhead while you run.

A finish-line meal is served after you cross, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. Aid stations are fully stocked and staffed by volunteers who know the course well.

Common Questions About the Staunton Rocks! Marathon and Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Staunton Rocks! Marathon and Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:57:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 8:10:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Staunton Rocks! Marathon and Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (163 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Staunton Rocks! Marathon and Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:52:11 while the median finisher took 2:57:44. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
