About the St. Vincent DePaul Run/Walk/Bike for the Poor
The course follows a converted railroad bed turned trail, so the surface is smooth and the grade barely rises. Trees close in overhead for most of the route, with the Little Maquoketa River running alongside and limestone bluffs rising on the far bank. It is a genuinely pretty stretch of trail, and the same path serves runners, walkers, and cyclists on the same morning.
Registration opens at a pond off Rupp Hollow Road, which also serves as the start area. Cyclists have a few route options, from a simple out-and-back on the trail to a longer hilly loop. The event raises money for local rent and utility assistance through St. Vincent DePaul, so the entry fee goes directly toward that work.
