About the SSgt Jason Hicks Memorial 5k

This race runs through Pageland in honor of an Air Force combat search and rescue airman killed in Afghanistan. The proceeds go to a scholarship awarded each year to a graduating senior from the high school Jason attended, so there is real weight behind the morning. The course itself is described as a strong one, and the event draws families as much as runners.

Packet pickup opens race morning at the Pageland Community Center, and registration stays open until shortly before the start. After the race, there is a BBQ chicken lunch on site. Non-runners can buy a meal ticket and join in, which means the finish area tends to fill up with people who are there for the occasion, not just the clock.
