About the Sound the Alarm 5k
The course runs out and back along Madison Pike through an older part of Independence, passing through a stretch with some history to it. The elevation change is minimal, barely noticeable underfoot, so it reads as a mostly flat route. The race raises money for the families of first responders killed in the line of duty, organized by a local firefighters union alongside a Baptist church.
Packet pickup happens the evening before at a running store in Edgewood, with a race-morning option available at the start site for those who cannot make the earlier pickup. There are no corrals at the start; faster runners line up toward the front and walkers toward the back.
