About the Sodalis Scurry

The Sodalis Scurry runs through Echo Hollow Nature Park, a protected habitat named after an endangered local bat species. The trails are a mix of dirt, gravel, and grass, and the park has a quiet, wooded character that leans into the season. Costumes are encouraged, and the whole afternoon has a Halloween-adjacent mood without being a themed obstacle course.

After finishing, runners can hang around the fire pits for s'mores and hot chocolate. The post-race setup feels more like a backyard gathering than a race expo, which suits the park setting.

Common Questions About the Sodalis Scurry

Will I finish last at the Sodalis Scurry?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 47:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Sodalis Scurry a good first 5K?

It is a small race (81 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Sodalis Scurry?

The 5K winner ran 21:11 while the median finisher took 47:55. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
