About the Skipjack Run

The course crosses Deal Island Bridge at the start and again on the way back in, so there is a real climb built into both ends of the run. The harbor at the start holds a historic commercial sail-powered fishing fleet, and the marsh creeks along the way tend to have osprey working the water. The beach nearby is known for sea glass.

Proceeds go toward a community Thanksgiving dinner held on the holiday itself, which gives the race a specific local purpose beyond the running. Walkers and leashed dogs are welcome at the start alongside runners.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Skipjack Run

Will I finish last at the Skipjack Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:19:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Skipjack Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (76 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Skipjack Run?

The 5K winner ran 18:24 while the median finisher took 39:37. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
