About the Sirens and Sneakers 5K

The course runs across Ort Farms, a working farm, so the ground shifts between loose dirt, gravel, grass, and paved road depending on where you are and what the weather has been doing. The route does a couple of laps, so you get a feel for the terrain before you have to push. Views of the surrounding valley and hills open up along the way.

The race benefits local volunteer first responders, and the morning has that feel: police help at the road crossings, families around the start. Ort Farms runs an Oktoberfest the same day, so hayrides, pumpkin picking, and live music are all happening after you finish. Admission to the festival is separate, but it makes for an easy reason to stick around.

Common Questions About the Sirens and Sneakers 5K

Will I finish last at the Sirens and Sneakers 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:27, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Sirens and Sneakers 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (73 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Sirens and Sneakers 5K?

The 5K winner ran 23:04 while the median finisher took 36:27. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
