The race honors Steve Sims, a Grosse Ile High School teacher and coach remembered for developing young athletes, and proceeds fund a scholarship given in his name. The course runs through Grosse Ile, and the morning has a patriotic theme this year, with a costume prize for runners who dress the part. A DJ keeps things going after the finish, and there are raffles and age-category awards on the grounds.
