About the Shillelagh Shuffle 5K

The race starts and finishes at a local brewery, with a shorter untimed option for kids and families alongside the main timed run. The course runs through Cornelius, and the whole morning has an Irish theme, including a costume contest for runners and their dogs.

Packet pickup happens at the brewery on the evening before race day. Post-race, there are food trucks, live music, and award announcements on site. Top finishers and age group winners take home YMCA memberships, pint glasses, and drink tokens.

Common Questions About the Shillelagh Shuffle 5K

Will I finish last at the Shillelagh Shuffle 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:32, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Shillelagh Shuffle 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (113 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Shillelagh Shuffle 5K?

The 5K winner ran 17:46 while the median finisher took 35:32. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
