This is a relay race that follows the historic route of the voting rights marches of the mid-twentieth century, running from Selma to the state capitol in Montgomery. The road between those two cities carries real weight, and running it as a team means each leg covers ground that marchers once walked under very different circumstances. The course is point-to-point on open roads, so teams need support vehicles.
